At 4 years old Jason Winters told his mother that he buttered toast better than she did. At 8 he remembers learning traditional Thai cuisine from his stepsister. At 12, after an episode of “Great Chefs Great Cities,” he would write a wish list for the trip to the market including foie gras. Finally when he grew old enough to work he had two kitchen jobs through high school.
After high school, he moved to the culinary mecca of Las Vegas where he worked for two James Beard award-winning chefs, Julian Serrano and Alessandro Stratta. The two restaurants received 5-star ratings by the Mobile Travel Guide.
Jason left Sin City to return home to sunny Southern California where he opened “Studio at the Montage Resort” under James Boyce which also received a 5-star rating. Jason then spent over three years under his mentor Chef Suzanne Goin at Lucques, moving up the ranks to Sous Chef. Suzanne recognized his talent and asked him to help open her new restaurant in Brentwood Tavern.
In 2012 he decided to leave his Chef position for a leap of faith to launch Urban Pie. Which has received many accolades. After about 6 years of research of the history, food and cultures in the middle east, and realizing that there was a food revolution taking part there, is when Hearth & Olive was born in March of 2017. Check out our blog and social media to see his travels.
